Doctor Who: The Return of Tennant

So David Tennant is coming back for the 50th Anniversary of Who! Whoop whoop – or is it.
Multiple Doctor stories are always dangerous. The first of these was the Three Doctors, during the reign of Jon Pertwee. The primary concern with doing this kind of episode at the time was that Pertwee’s incarnation of the Doctor would be overshadowed by those of Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell. This was a legitimate concern and accordingly the script had to written in a way that did not allow this, or else Pertwee would have refused to do it.

Now I have similar concerns here. Both Tennant and Smith have very big on screen presences and while there’s no doubt that the two actors get along, the episode may suffer for the presence of both.

It cannot be denied that 10 and 11 have some fans who like them both and some who only like one of them. This means that the story of the episode may suffer for the sake of a balancing act of between both incarnations separate quirks and traits. The Tenannt/Smith fans come into play here, as any imbalance between them may result in a good deal of fanboy moaning from either camp. Add to that, that those of us who don't really have a preference, will be pissed off that the story may be deviating from the point in order to show the fact that it has two Doctors in it and we may be headed for a fan exodus.

Now this might seem a bit dramatic, but it’s the kind of thing that happens when you have two massive personalities on screen. All fan service normally equals low quality of story. What do people think about this? (comment below)
